Missouri Mountain

Missouri West Ridge from Clohesy Lake - Class 2
Emerald Peak - Northeast Ridge via Missouri

On Friday night Kristi and I drove our 2001 Tacoma to Clohesy Lake. The water was low and the creek crossing was not a big deal. The road to Clohesy wasn't so bad either... although there were a few sections I was glad we were in the truck vs. a Suby. We slept in the back of the truck close to the gate at the end of the road. The hike was relatively gentle with great views of Huron, North Apostle, Ice Mountain and Harvard. We didn't spend much time on Missouri's summit due to crowds... however we had Iowa and Emerald all to ourselves.... 13ers are awesome! As far as our route goes... we descended Emerald's summit a little too soon and had to deal with more scree than we would have if we had stayed on the ridge a little longer... but no big deal. The meadows below Emerald were incredible... cool rocks and boulders, amazing wild flowers and great views. The trail back to Clohesy was soft and easy to walk. On the drive back to the highway we passed an overflowing Missouri Gulch TH. Our route was definitely a nice alternative to the standard Missouri route with respect to crowds.
