The 2.6 mile hike to Fancy Lake is relatively easy and there are a couple of cool waterfalls to see along the way. The views from the lake are a nice reward as you break through treeline.
Fancy Pass isn't too far from the lake and you may need to cross a snowfield depending on the time of year. I had quite a bit of snow (which was thankfully supportive) and did not need traction or floatation.
From the pass the hike to the summit is moderately steep below and along Fancy Peak's south ridge.
On the summit I made a game time decision to loop it up and descend into the Mulhall Lakes basin. This route did not disappoint. It is always nice to get new and different perspectives on things.
Love this area... the Holy Cross Wilderness never disappoints!
