Our plan was to climb Pilot Knob and Golden Horn together. However when we reached the Golden Horn saddle after climbing Pilot we were hit by a storm and bailed back to camp.
The scrambling was great on Pilot's summit ridge. However traversing around the southwest side of the summit ridge to the Golden Horn saddle was loose, steep and not so much fun.
4.2m - 1500ft - 3hrs
Hiking in the basin between Pilot Knob and Golden Horn. We gained the Pilot Knob ridge just north (lookers right) of the summit ridge
Kristi below the north end of the summit ridge. We traversed a good ways around the west side of the ridge until we found cairns and a reasonable class 3 route up.
Alex on the summit ridge
Kristi climbing on the summit ridge. There were a few spots with decent exposure
Super cool rock
Summit Selfie with Golden Horn, Fuller and Vermillion
we retraced our route back down the summit ridge
Our plan was to traverse around to the south side of Pilot Knob and over to Golden Horn. The traverse around Pilot Knob was steep, loose and scary. Not so much fun
When we reached the Golden Horn saddle it began to lightning and thunder so we bailed back to camp and saved Golden Horn for the next day.
Thunder and Rainbows
By the time we reached camp the storm had passed. Still think we made the right decision... but it was a little frustrating
