Grizzly Couloir
Skiing Grizzly Couloir
Date: 6/16/2020
Partner: Joel Paula
Stats: 5.25m - 3800ft - 5hrs
A Grizzly Gulch sunset to close out ski season was Joel's idea and it paid off big time.
We met at the bottom of the road in Bakerville at 4:30pm and drove my truck as far up Grizzly Gulch as we could. The stream crossings were relatively easy and there was some fun 4x4 manuvers to be made... but nothing too crazy. Country music was blaring and southern accents were in full swing. Joel said he wasn't sure he could still be my friend :-o
The hike to the base of the couloir was relatively short. There were more streams to cross but they were easy as runoff had peaked a week or two earlier.
The snow in the couloir was perfect for climbing and skiing... firm underneath with a few inches of corn on top. It was great to be in a hallway so late in the season.
We made quick work of the couloir then headed over to the Tuning Forks to wrapup the season by skiing into a blazing sunset.
