Engelmann Peak
Class 2
Date: 06/16/2021
Partner: Kristi Henes
Trailhead: Urad Mine
Summits: Robeson Peak, Engelmann Peak
Distance: 7 miles
Elevation Gain: 3300ft
Duration: 3.5hrs
Rating: Class 2
A relatively gentle hike within an hour of Denver.
The key to having fun on this peak is to stay out of Engelmann's gullys unless there is snow to climb or glissade.
If you are looking for a longer day in this zone, looping up Engelmann with Bard, Parnassus and Woods is a nice option.

Hike on the most prominent road until you reach a small rail that crosses the road

Hike to the white dot when you see the rail

Follow trail segments and eventually leave the trail to gain Robeson's northwest ridge. Don't get sucked into the gully!

Gentle hiking on Robeson's northwest ridge

After summiting Robeson we hiked less than a mile to Engelmann Peak

Kristi summits Engelmann. Robeson looking insignificant with Bard and Parnassus dominating the view.

On the way back Kristi points to the trail we planned to take back to Robeson's northwest ridge

But when we spotted the snow we decided to drop down and glissade the gully
![Engelmann 15]()
The snow took us a good way down before we were able escape the gully back to the trail.
![Engelmann 16]()
The lower section of the gully descended easier than it looks. Would not have wanted to ascend this way. There is an obvious trail on the left to exit the gully around 11,400

Back on the road Kristi picks up the pace back to the car
