Jupiter - Southwest Slope - Class 2+
Pigeon - Southwest Slopes - Class 3
Turret - Northwest Slopes - Class 2+
Our adventure started with a train ride from Durango to Needleton. From Needleton we hiked the Needle Creek Trail to Chicago Basin, setup camp and did a sunset hike up Jupiter Mountain. On day two we slept in, packed up and hiked over Twin Thumbs Pass to Camp Goat Wall at the base of Pigeon and Turret in Ruby Basin. On day three we climbed Pigeon and Turret then spent another night in Ruby Basin. We had a lazy morning on day four then hiked down Ruby Basin and back to Needleton. This was a brutal trail and we were SOOOO glad we did not hike in this way. We hopped the 3:30 train back to Durango... drove back to Denver... getting home at 2am. Over our four days in the hills we covered 27 miles and 15,000 vertical.
